Ways to get involved in Egypt

Here's what our partners are running right now. Pick a placement that looks like a fit and we'll send the current dates and costs.

Why AmeriCorps alumni choose Egypt

Cairo is loud, huge, and rewarding if you go in with patience. Placements run through community centers and schools in teaching, childcare, animal care, women's programs, and social media support, so alumni from education and community development roles slot in fastest. You live with a host family, which is the main reason people come back saying the homestay was the trip. Stays run one to twelve weeks and weekly costs are low. Arabic is the working language outside the placement, so expect to rely on your host family for the first week or two.

  • Placements based in the capital city of Cairo
  • Living with a local family in a traditional homestay
  • Animal care, teaching, and women's empowerment roles

Placements run through International Volunteer HQ (IVHQ).

If you're using your Segal Education Award

Award funds have to go to a Title IV school, so your placement needs to carry academic credit. That required academic credit and enrollment fee starts at $999 and is on top of the program fees above. We'll walk you through it.

Fees change through the year. Ask us for the current Egypt numbers and we'll confirm them with the partner before you apply.
