Volunteer programs vs. internships
Two ways to use your Segal Education Award abroad. Pick the rhythm that matches your goals.
Volunteer programs are community-first
With IVHQ, you plug into existing local projects shaped by community need, local capacity, season, and project priorities, so you may not receive detailed placement information until you arrive. Most volunteers contribute about 3 to 5 hours a day, leaving time to explore, build relationships, and absorb the culture. Choose this if you want immersion, flexibility, and service.
Internships are career-first
With Intern Abroad HQ, you receive placement details before you go, work full-time, and get structured supervision, coaching, and mentorship. You will build professional experience with confirmed responsibilities and a clear path from service to career. Choose this if you want career-focused growth.
Your award works for either track. A full-time AmeriCorps term can earn up to $7,395, and most program fees on this page start well below that. The Segal Education Award is also called the AmeriCorps Education Award.
Not sure where to start?
You don't need a meeting to narrow it down. Pick the self-serve path that fits you best.
