Ways to get involved in Greece

Here's what our partners are running right now. Pick a placement that looks like a fit and we'll send the current dates and costs.

Why AmeriCorps alumni choose Greece

Greece is the destination for alumni who want to be in Europe without paying Western European prices. Athens placements focus on refugee and migrant support, youth sport, arts programming, and teaching, all through organizations working on one of the most documented humanitarian situations in the region. The work is serious and the context is complicated, which is exactly why alumni with case-management or crisis-response experience do well here. Athens is also a cheap flight from almost anywhere in Europe, so weekend travel is realistic on a modest budget.

  • Refugee and migrant support programs
  • Affordable base for European travel
  • Strong fit for case-management experience

Placements run through Intern Abroad HQ and International Volunteer HQ (IVHQ).

If you're using your Segal Education Award

Award funds have to go to a Title IV school, so your placement needs to carry academic credit. That required academic credit and enrollment fee starts at $999 and is on top of the program fees above. We'll walk you through it.

Fees change through the year. Ask us for the current Greece numbers and we'll confirm them with the partner before you apply.

Athens: a delightful maze of traditions, locals, and travelers

Greece paved the way for an improved outlook I have on life abroad. The world is so vast and Athens for me was this delightful maze of preserved traditions, sincere locals, and sentimental travelers. I would not trade any second I spent there for any other experience, genuinely.
