Guatemala tends to appeal to alumni who liked the community-based side of their service term. Placements sit inside neighborhoods and rural towns, so you work alongside local staff rather than dropping into a project for a few hours a day. Antigua and Lake Atitlán are the usual bases, and both make Spanish study easy to combine with a placement. Weekly costs here are among the lowest of any destination we track, so a partial award can still fund a meaningful stay. If your service involved literacy, food security, women's programs, or construction, you'll recognize the work quickly.
Placements run through Intern Abroad HQ and International Volunteer HQ (IVHQ).

If you're using your Segal Education Award
Award funds have to go to a Title IV school, so your placement needs to carry academic credit. That required academic credit and enrollment fee starts at $999 and is on top of the program fees above. We'll walk you through it.
