Ways to get involved in Indonesia

Here's what our partners are running right now. Pick a placement that looks like a fit and we'll send the current dates and costs.

Why AmeriCorps alumni choose Indonesia

Indonesia, and Bali in particular, covers a wide range of placements. It's affordable week to week, the volunteer community is large enough that you won't be on your own, and the work ranges from childcare and English teaching in Ubud to marine and turtle conservation on the coast. It's also a genuine cultural shift, which is the point: the daily rhythm, the religion, and the etiquette are unfamiliar in ways that stay with you. Placements start at one week, so it works as a shorter trip, and longer stays are available if you want more time in one community.

  • Marine, turtle, and environmental conservation
  • Teaching and childcare placements in Ubud
  • Low weekly cost, large volunteer community

Placements run through International Volunteer HQ (IVHQ) and Intern Abroad HQ.

If you're using your Segal Education Award

Award funds have to go to a Title IV school, so your placement needs to carry academic credit. That required academic credit and enrollment fee starts at $999 and is on top of the program fees above. We'll walk you through it.

Fees change through the year. Ask us for the current Indonesia numbers and we'll confirm them with the partner before you apply.

Teaching in Bali: reinvigorating a love of teaching

I stepped out of my comfort zone and into a classroom in Bali, Indonesia. It was a transformative season that did more than broaden my mind: it reinvigorated my love of teaching. Beyond the lesson plans, I was struck by small acts of friendliness from strangers and the eager energy of my fourth-grade students. My time abroad reminded me that even when we feel depleted, new communities and service can help us find our footing again.
