Ways to get involved in Jamaica

Here's what our partners are running right now. Pick a placement that looks like a fit and we'll send the current dates and costs.

Why AmeriCorps alumni choose Jamaica

Jamaica is centered on the parish of St Mary, near Ocho Rios. The work is literacy support, kindergarten and special education classrooms, youth wellness, agriculture with local farmers, and animal care. English is the primary language, so conversations start immediately and you can be genuinely useful inside a week. You live in a shared volunteer house with breakfast provided. Placements run one to eight weeks, which makes this a common first trip for alumni who want a short, high contact placement rather than a long relocation.

If you're using your Segal Education Award

Award funds have to go to a Title IV school, so your placement needs to carry academic credit. That required academic credit and enrollment fee starts at $999 and is on top of the program fees above. We'll walk you through it.

Fees change through the year. Ask us for the current Jamaica numbers and we'll confirm them with the partner before you apply.

Being present in Ocho Rios, and already planning to return

My time in Ocho Rios was everything that I hoped for. Being intentional about what I wanted to do was fairly simple. To be present, and to allow myself to be open. There were moments when I missed home. And now that I am home, I miss Jamaica. I am already considering ways that I can volunteer again.
