Ways to get involved in Madagascar

Here's what our partners are running right now. Pick a placement that looks like a fit and we'll send the current dates and costs.

Why AmeriCorps alumni choose Madagascar

Madagascar is the rustic end of what we list. Placements are on Nosy Komba and Nosy Be, you sleep in beach huts, and the payoff is fieldwork on biodiversity you will not see anywhere else: forest monitoring, marine surveys, and turtle protection. There is also English teaching and school construction in the island villages. Meals and housing are included, and costs are low enough that an award can fund a three month stay outright. Malagasy lessons come with the program. Go for this one if remoteness is the appeal rather than the trade off.

  • Conservation placements on Nosy Komba and Nosy Be
  • English teaching and school construction projects
  • Low weekly costs, so an award can stretch further here

Placements run through International Volunteer HQ (IVHQ).

If you're using your Segal Education Award

Award funds have to go to a Title IV school, so your placement needs to carry academic credit. That required academic credit and enrollment fee starts at $999 and is on top of the program fees above. We'll walk you through it.

Fees change through the year. Ask us for the current Madagascar numbers and we'll confirm them with the partner before you apply.
