Ways to get involved in Malaysia

Here's what our partners are running right now. Pick a placement that looks like a fit and we'll send the current dates and costs.

Why AmeriCorps alumni choose Malaysia

Tioman Island is a marine science placement. You do fish surveys, coral restoration, and turtle hatchery work, and scientific dive training is part of the program, which is the main reason alumni choose it over cheaper conservation options. Everything runs in English. The season is March to mid October and placements run two to twelve weeks. This is a focused, single site experience with a small team and not much variety, so it works best if marine work is the goal rather than one option among several. An award covers a two to eight week placement comfortably.

  • Turtle hatchery and beach conservation work
  • Scientific dive training and coral reef restoration
  • Internships available on the tropical Tioman Island

Placements run through Intern Abroad HQ.

If you're using your Segal Education Award

Award funds have to go to a Title IV school, so your placement needs to carry academic credit. That required academic credit and enrollment fee starts at $999 and is on top of the program fees above. We'll walk you through it.

Fees change through the year. Ask us for the current Malaysia numbers and we'll confirm them with the partner before you apply.
