Ways to get involved in Mozambique
Here's what our partners are running right now. Pick a placement that looks like a fit and we'll send the current dates and costs.
Why AmeriCorps alumni choose Mozambique
Mozambique is one placement done well. You are based in Inhambane on the Indian Ocean coast, collecting data on humpback whale migrations, seahorse populations, and reef health alongside local researchers. The work is in English and involves real survey protocols rather than observation. Housing is beachside bungalows, shared. Stays run two to twelve weeks. The coastal towns have a Portuguese influenced culture that is worth a few weekends of exploring, and an award covers a mid length placement with margin for travel.
- Monitor humpback whale migrations in Inhambane
- Stay in shared bungalows right on the beach
- Conduct seahorse and reef health surveys in the estuary
Placements run through International Volunteer HQ (IVHQ).

If you're using your Segal Education Award
Award funds have to go to a Title IV school, so your placement needs to carry academic credit. That required academic credit and enrollment fee starts at $999 and is on top of the program fees above. We'll walk you through it.
Fees change through the year. Ask us for the current Mozambique numbers and we'll confirm them with the partner before you apply.
