Ways to get involved in Peru

Here's what our partners are running right now. Pick a placement that looks like a fit and we'll send the current dates and costs.

Why AmeriCorps alumni choose Peru

Peru has the most tracks of any Latin American destination here. Lima and Cusco cover education, healthcare, childcare, and community development, the Amazon covers jungle conservation, and there are archaeology placements and internships in veterinary science and public health. Volunteer stays start at one week and internships run to twenty-four. Spanish is the working language and most alumni add lessons, which is easy to do in Cusco. Weekly costs are moderate, so a full award can fund a long placement plus an Andean village stay on either side.

  • Placements in Lima, Cusco, and the Amazon rainforest
  • Specialized archaeology and Andean immersion tracks
  • Internships in veterinary science and public health

Placements run through International Volunteer HQ (IVHQ) and Intern Abroad HQ.

If you're using your Segal Education Award

Award funds have to go to a Title IV school, so your placement needs to carry academic credit. That required academic credit and enrollment fee starts at $999 and is on top of the program fees above. We'll walk you through it.

Fees change through the year. Ask us for the current Peru numbers and we'll confirm them with the partner before you apply.

A life-changing first trip abroad, and a taste of independence

This experience truly was life changing for me and was something I am extremely proud of myself for overcoming. Doing something as ambitious as going to another country for the first time by myself and volunteering really gave me a taste of what it's like to be independent and strive for my goals.
