Ways to get involved in Puerto Rico

Here's what our partners are running right now. Pick a placement that looks like a fit and we'll send the current dates and costs.

Why AmeriCorps alumni choose Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico is the option with no passport and no long flight. San Juan placements cover youth mentoring in community centers, urban forest and garden conservation, and NGO support, and the recovery and climate resilience work will look familiar to anyone who served in disaster response. Spanish is the primary language and the environment is forgiving if you are still learning. Stays run one to twelve weeks. Because travel costs are minimal, more of your award goes to the program itself, which is the strongest argument for starting here.

  • Placements based in the coastal capital of San Juan
  • Support urban forest and garden conservation efforts
  • Mentor local youth in community centers and schools

Placements run through International Volunteer HQ (IVHQ).

If you're using your Segal Education Award

Award funds have to go to a Title IV school, so your placement needs to carry academic credit. That required academic credit and enrollment fee starts at $999 and is on top of the program fees above. We'll walk you through it.

Fees change through the year. Ask us for the current Puerto Rico numbers and we'll confirm them with the partner before you apply.
