Why AmeriCorps alumni choose Spain
Spain gives you a choice of cities rather than a single base. Barcelona is the hub for volunteer placements, while internships run through Madrid, Seville, and Valencia. Volunteer work covers NGO teaching support, food rescue, social programs, animal welfare, and support for people with disabilities, and there is marine research and diving on the Mediterranean coast. Spanish lessons are affordable and worth adding. Stays run one to twelve weeks. An award covers program costs across that range, and Spain is the destination most alumni choose when they want a placement plus real language progress.

- Marine Biology internships in Tenerife, Spain, include diving activities. Participants who are not already certified with a scuba diving license are welcome to sign up for the required training and complete this on-site. (At least one week’s additional time is required for this). A medical statement related to diving activities is required.

If you're using your Segal Education Award
Award funds have to go to a Title IV school, so your placement needs to carry academic credit. That required academic credit and enrollment fee starts at $999 and is on top of the program fees above. We'll walk you through it.
